Band On The Wall has been one of the cornerstones of Manchester's music scene for the greater part of the last century. It has played host to many internationally acclaimed artists including Mica Paris, The Fall, Art Blakey, Joy Division, and Carleen Anderson. It also has a global reputation for showcasing a vast array of accomplished and respected artists from around the world. In doing so it is internationally known as a venue that promotes equality and diversity through music. This unique and pioneering programme of music has delighted and thrilled hundreds of thousands of people over the years. Closed in 2005 for redevelopment, the venue opens in 2009 with state-of the art new facilities including new sound and lighting systems; audio and AV recording facilities; a new arts space, The Picturehouse, in the adjacent building providing a new a new social space for music and presenting exhibitions and complimentary events throughout the year; an ongoing visual and audio archive accessible both at on site and online, a new online box office and website built with open-source technologies and interactive facilities that will provide an international arena for the enjoyment and direct participation in our music programme; a dynamic education programme committed to local communities and young people through outreach, workshops, masterclasses and more.
