My career in design started in 1979 with the launch of a punk fanzine. I taught myself to print on an AB-Dick Offset Litho press and became addicted to the smells of ink, cow gum and correction fluid. Juggling the disciplines of designer, journalist and printer I continued to produce magazines until the mid '80s . After a brief diversion running coach trips to the Hacienda (in the glory days of acid house) I bought a Mac and started my first grown-up design company, Eg.G, in 1991.
In its 14 year history Eg.G established an international reputation for ground breaking design (mainly in print and animation), working with clients like MTV, the BBC, Warp Records, The North Face and the Arts Council. The company's work has been published in over twenty design books and featured in numerous magazines and journals.
In 2006 Eg.G became Corporation Pop and focused much more on digital content, particularly within virtual worlds. Now Corporation Pop are one of only 17 UK based companies to be recognised by Linden Labs as developers for Second LIfe. To date we have produced 'island builds' for Mute Records and Manchester Business School and currently have a number of projects in development including a Second Life tie-in with a TV series. The Guardian newspaper said of their project for Mute Records, 'it has a humour, warmth and ability to hold your interest that's decidely rare in Second Life', which neatly sums up our aim of producing virtual world spaces that push boundaries whilst being fun, interactive and, above all, engaging.
