Selected teams will be invited to attend a 5-day residential rapid prototyping lab in March 2006. The intensive residential lab will be run by Frank Boyd (Ex-BBC Head of Innovation) and will provide a space for the selected industry professionals to learn from each other and from industry mentors (including representatives from the BBC). The lab methodology is based on interdisciplinary, collaborative development, expert mentoring and iterative design. It has not only played a critical role in the production of some seminal interactive applications but has also fostered a network of talented new media creatives.
The Innovation Lab will develop the selected seed ideas into prototypes with a clear vision of audience needs, market forces and technical realities. The BBC will retain first refusal on the applications developed through the lab, and where projects are not considered suitable for further funding, participants will be free to take their applications to market through other routes. A stipend of £5000 will be paid to each team attending the lab regardless of whether or not their project is taken forward.
